Oracle Software Engineer Compensation
IC IC2-IC5, manager M3-M6. Two companies in one: OCI offers run 15-25% above legacy product. Watch front-loaded year-1 offer structures - model years 2-4.
Ranges aggregated from publicly-available sources. Treat the median (p50) as roughly representative; quartile bands reflect negotiation range. Have specific data points or corrections? Send them in.
Company-specific notes
Oracle uses IC-numbered levels (IC2 entry through IC5 Consulting Member of Technical Staff; IC6 Architect above). Equity is RSUs in publicly-traded ORCL. Two structural caveats matter more here than the percentile bands. First, the OCI split: Oracle Cloud Infrastructure pays 15-25% above the legacy-product orgs at the same level, and nearly all competitive external offers are OCI - assume OCI maps to p50-p90 and legacy to p25-p50 of the blended bands shown. Second, offer shape: Oracle has a reputation for front-loading - sign-on cash plus front-weighted vesting makes year 1 look strong while years 2-4 sag relative to peers with uniform vests and reliable refreshes. Always model the full four years. The cash bonus also has a below-target payout reputation outside OCI; treat it as upside. Title inflation is real: Oracle 'Principal' (IC4) calibrates to senior elsewhere.
Levels
Oracle comp is really two companies: OCI (cloud infrastructure) offers run 15-25% above legacy-product offers at the same IC level, and most of the negotiation energy in public reports is OCI. Bands below blend both; assume OCI sits at p50-p90 and legacy at p25-p50.
IC2
Software Engineer 2| Component | p25 | p50 | p75 | p90 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Base salary | $120K | $135K | $150K | $165K |
| Equity (annualized) | $15K | $25K | $38K | $55K |
| Bonus / sign-on amortized | $5K | $8K | $11K | $15K |
| Total comp | $140K | $170K | $200K | $235K |
Entry level (IC1 exists but is rarely used for degree-holding hires). OCI new-grad offers sit at the top of this band; legacy-product offers at the bottom.
IC3
Senior Software Engineer| Component | p25 | p50 | p75 | p90 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Base salary | $150K | $167K | $184K | $200K |
| Equity (annualized) | $35K | $55K | $80K | $115K |
| Bonus / sign-on amortized | $8K | $12K | $17K | $22K |
| Total comp | $195K | $235K | $280K | $335K |
Most-common external hire level. Watch offer structure: Oracle offers often front-load year-1 value with sign-on cash and front-weighted equity, so model years 2-4 before comparing against steady-state competitors.
IC4
Principal Software Engineer| Component | p25 | p50 | p75 | p90 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Base salary | $180K | $197K | $214K | $232K |
| Equity (annualized) | $60K | $95K | $140K | $195K |
| Bonus / sign-on amortized | $12K | $17K | $23K | $30K |
| Total comp | $250K | $310K | $375K | $455K |
Oracle 'Principal' maps to senior at most peers - a level-title inflation trap when comparing offers. OCI distributed-systems roles command p75-p90.
IC5
Consulting Member of Technical Staff| Component | p25 | p50 | p75 | p90 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Base salary | $210K | $228K | $246K | $265K |
| Equity (annualized) | $100K | $155K | $225K | $315K |
| Bonus / sign-on amortized | $17K | $24K | $32K | $42K |
| Total comp | $325K | $405K | $505K | $620K |
Staff-equivalent. The cash bonus has a reputation for paying below target outside OCI - treat the bonus column as upside, not guaranteed. Architect-level CMTS hires are mostly OCI.
