Apple runs on disclosure discipline - codenames, siloed teams, NDAs. Interviewers test whether you can collaborate effectively when you can't tell everyone everything.
Variations on these are asked at every level. Have a story pre-loaded for at least three of them.
Both strong and weak examples, with notes on what makes each work (or fail). Read the weak examples carefully - the patterns they show up are the ones interviewers are trained to spot.
What makes this strong: (1) the disclosure boundary was negotiated explicitly with its owner, not improvised under pressure; (2) the candidate engineered around the constraint - making the reviewable code honestly reviewable - rather than sneaking partner code past reviewers; (3) it shows the trust-preserving move Apple cares about: a graceful, direct 'I can't talk about that' paired with proactively getting teammates what they do need (the on-call briefing).
Why weak: (1) 'I trusted him so I filled him in' is the exact failure the theme screens for - the candidate personally re-drew a disclosure boundary they didn't own, under mild social pressure; (2) 'don't worry about it' plus a secret branch and a night-before merge is hoarding, not need-to-know - teammates who needed interface and on-call context were denied it, and review was bypassed; (3) the result hand-waves the damage ('they got over it'), showing no awareness that trust and code quality are part of the outcome.
Interviewers will probe. Be ready for the follow-up questions that test the depth of your story.
Amazon's bar for how leaders build credibility: listen, speak candidly, treat others respectfully, and be vocally self-critical even when it is awkward.
Apple organizes by expertise, not by product line - experts lead experts. Interviewers test for deep domain ownership and cross-functional coordination without a general manager to appeal to.
Apple sweats details users may never consciously notice. Interviewers test whether you genuinely care about polish - and whether you have the judgment to know which details matter.
